Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873 and completed in 1883, Peles castle served as the summer residence of the royal family until 1947. Its 160 rooms are adorned with the finest examples of European art, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows and Cordoba leather-covered walls.
King Carol spared no expense.
Peles Castle was the first European castle to have electricity, it even has its own power plant.
It also has hot and cold running water, central heating and a central vacuum system.
The stain glass roof of the foyer opens mechanically and there is a small elevator for the royal family.
Each room is decorated in a different style or theme.
There is a mini-Theatre, Music Room (India), Turkish Salon, Great Salon (Italy), Council Room (Switzerland), Moor Hall, and so much more.

“Rasnov Fortress”
Rasnov Fortress (Rosenau in German), is located on a rocky hilltop in the Carpathian Mountains, 650 ft. above the town of Rasnov. First mentioned in an official document in 1331, the fortress was built by Teutonic Knights as protection against invading Tartars and was later enlarged by the local Saxon population. Strategically located on the commercial route linking the provinces of Transylvania and Walachia, Rasnov differs from other Saxon fortresses in that it was designed as a place of refuge over extended periods of time. As such, it had at least 30 houses, a school, a chapel and other buildings more commonly associated with a village.

Surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend and perched high atop a 200-foot-high rock, Bran Castle owes its fame to its imposing towers and turrets as well as to the myth created around Bram Stocker’s Dracula.
Built on the site of a Teutonic Knights stronghold dating from 1212, the castle was first documented in an act issued by Louis I of Hungary on November 19, 1377, giving the Saxons of Kronstadt (Brasov) the privilege to build the Citadel.
Although Stoker never visited Transylvania, the Irish author relied on research and his vivid imagination to create the dark and intimidating stomping ground of Count Dracula, leading to persistent myths that it was once the home of Vlad Tepes, ruler of Walachia. If you want to cross Turda Gorge, you need to cross 4 bridges along the nearly 2 kilometres – Vizuina Spălată (Washed Lair), Mijlocul Cheii (Mid-Gorge), and Podul Peșterilor (Cave Bridge). Do not miss the Cetățeaua Mare cave (Grand Fortress), on the right side of the Hașdate valley, the main attraction of the Turda Gorge.

Sibiu is a city in Transylvania, central Romania. It’s known for Germanic architecture in its old town, the legacy of 12th-century Saxon settlers. Around the city are the remains of medieval walls and towers, including the 13th-century Council Tower. The Transfagarasan was built under the orders of leader Nicolae Ceausescu who wanted to create a safe passage across the Fagaras Mountains in case the Soviets invaded. Construction of the road took four years, from 1970-74 and required 6 kilograms (6,6000 tons) of dynamite.
The Transfagarasan Road is 150km long and takes 3.5-4 hours to drive, without stopping. Chances are that you will want to stop though, at least a few times, to just drink in the view. Count on adding at least an hour or two to your driving time.
